How do Cerezen™ ear canal inserts work?

Inner ear diagram with Cerezen™ device inserted

The ear canal is located very close to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). When people open their jaw for activities like chewing, speaking or smiling, the shape of the ear canal changes. Cerezen™ inserts use this anatomical change to provide a unique near field TMJ pain treatment.

Cerezen™ ear canal inserts can be greater than 20% larger in their dynamic geometry than the ear canal when in a jaw-closed position. It is this change in ear canal space, as well as the inserts’ proximity to the TMJ and surrounding muscle and nerve tissue, that is believed to apply subtle pressure against the walls of the ear canal. This encourages the patient to return to the “open bite” position, thus minimizing the tendency to clench the jaw and surrounding muscle.
